STEPS
1. Prepare 1/4 cup whole black peppercorns (yield: about 1/2 cup ground black pepper) and a mortar and pestle.
2. Pour black peppercorns into the mortar a tablespoon at a time and grind to desired texture using the pestle.
3. Store the freshly ground pepper in a small, airtight glass container to preserve its freshness.
