Many stood out, but only one emerges the best for PETA.
Last year saw the opening of many burger joints in the metro. Another evident food trend in 2009 was the growing number of people opting for a healthier lifestyle and eating habits. And it is perhaps both reasons why there suddenly is a demand for veggie burgers.
"There are as many fast and delicious veggie burger options as there are reasons to choose a veggie option," says PETA Director Jason Baker, who is also the group's resident food critic. "Making it meatless and better yet, vegan is good for your health, the environment, and especially animals."
For those who find themselves turning to a healthier fare, you won't find the adjustment such a challenge as more and more restaurants are offering vegetarian meals, which are naturally low in fat and cholesterol and high in fiber and other nutrients. The PETA or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals lists down and awards the more notable veggie burgers and restaurants in the bunch.
