Brie

Yummy magazine food editor Rachelle Santos gives us the basics about brie:

1. Brie is a disc-shaped soft cheese made from cow’s milk that’s covered in semi-soft, white, edible rind.

2. It’s a creamy cheese with a subtle acidic aroma and a salty, buttery flavor.

3. Named after a town in France, history says that Brie was in existence as early as Charlemagne’s time and was enjoyed by peasants and nobles alike. Today, this “Queen of Cheeses” is the best-known French cheese and is enjoyed the world over.

4. Brie is a dessert cheese, so it is normally served after meals. It is eaten at room temperature or even slightly warm. Fruits, good crusty bread, and white wine such as champagne are perfect companions to his cheese.

5. Brie is very versatile: Aside from having it for dessert, it can also be used in salads and sandwiches. It may also be wrapped in pastry and baked or coated in breadcrumbs and fried.

6. Buying tip: Brie can be found in the chiller section of supermarkets and specialty gourmet stores. It may be purchased either as full wheel of in wedges.

7. Storage tip: Keep it in the refrigerator, tightly wrapped in wax paper and covered with plastic wrap or placed in a resealable plastic bag or airtight container.
