Divine Mesina stumbles upon Sagada citrus gold

They are sweet, juicy, seedless, and huge! At P150 per kilo at the Baguio Public Market, they are quite pricey—but definitely worth every penny.
The moniker Sagada Orange can be quite confusing because vendors usually refer to all oranges grown in Sagada as such. But in reality, there are several varieties grown in that mountainous region.
The orange skin can be made into marmalade; the thin white skin segments surrounding the juicy pulp is easy to bite into; and each whole fruit yields a lot of juice such that the juice from just two or three oranges can fill up a tall glass. Ice cold, freshly squeezed OJ in the morning is the perfect way to jumpstart a busy day.
All over Metro Manila, many oranges are sold in fruit stands, wet markets, and supermarkets. Doing my marketing in Divisoria one time, I passed by a vendor with a big sign that said, “Sagada Oranges—Super tamis!” Selling for P160 per kilo, I found myself thinking, “This saves me the trouble of a six-hour, 700-peso bus ride—what a steal!” So I purchased a kilo of Sagada oranges. Before I even reached home, I had already peeled one, savoring every succulent bite.
