Chili, really?
A bowl of this may taste Mexican, but it's not! According to Culture Cafe, the earliest bowl of spicy stew of beans, herbs, peppers, and meat like this Chili Con Carne was actually traced back to San Antonio, Texas.

The birthplace of the thick, creamy Sweet Potato Clam Chowder is rather murky, but Kitchen Project believes it came from New England, featuring salted pork fat, thickened with a flour, heavy roux, crumbled ship biscuit or saltine crackers and milk.
