Divine Mesina reports why ginger is considered an aphrodisiac.
Although often referred to as ginger root, fresh ginger is actually the rhizome of the ginger plant. It is available fresh, dried or in powder form. Ginger is used in many different dishes as well as in desserts and drinks.

Why is it considered an aphrodisiac?
Ginger’s reputation as a natural aphrodisiac comes from the fact that this spice aids in the blood circulation to all systems of the body. The increase of blood flow stimulates the brain, as well as the nerve endings in all parts of the body including the privates. This then makes the so-called erogenous zones—areas in the body that arouse sexual desire—to be more sensitive.
Ginger has a warming effect on the body and in turn promotes perspiration. When the body starts to perspire and heart begins to beat fast, this reflects the body’s natural reactions during a heated sex act.
Not only does this spice have a peculiar taste, ginger also has an olfactory quality that stimulates the brain and helps to elevate the heart rate.
Some studies have shown that rats given water that’s been infused with ginger showed an increase in the secretion of testosterone—the hormone responsible for the male sex drive.
Buying and storing
Fresh ginger should be firm, not soft and pliable. The skin must be smooth and somewhat beige in color, not wrinkled or a shade of brown.
Keep your ginger in the refrigerator. Or if you intend to keep it a long time, cut it up in one-inch pieces and put it in a resealable bag then place bag in the freezer. This will last up to several months.
