Weight management
Place heavy items like large bottles and bags at waist level. Lighter items such as cereal boxes go on higher shelves. This way, you don't strain your arms or back when lifting the heavier stuff.
Basket case
Corral bottles of spices in a small basket and put sticker labels on the caps. This way, you don't have to pull out every bottle when searching for the one you need.
Take note!
Keep a blackboard or a magnetic pad on your refrigerator or pantry door. Write down things you need to buy for your next grocery trip, and list down items that are expiring.
FIFO
Put the FIFO principle in practice: First In, First Out. Put newly purchased items at the back of older items, so you use up what will expire first.
Save the date!
Transfer grains and flours to jars. Using a permanent marker (easily removable with nail polish remover), label the jar with the ingredient name and the expiration date.
Store more!
Got lots of half-empty bags lying around? If space is an issue and you can't transfer them to jars, keep the bags closed with clips and store them all in one container instead.
Gotta keep 'em separated!
Since you'll most likely be using them together, segregate ingredients by cuisine and put them in different baskets. One can hold Italian ingredients, another can gather Chinese staples.
Space saver
Use store-bought organizers, like this expandable shelf for canned goods (available at Howards Storage World) to make the most out of limited space.
Go for a spin!
Avoid knocking over condiments to get what you need. Place your most often used ingredients on a rotating tray - just spin to see what you've got. Simple and easy!
