Pretty Recipes
Who knew recipes could be stunning examples of visual art? They Draw and Cook is the brainchild of professional illustrators and siblings Nate Padavic and Salli Swindell. Salli was inspired by the beautiful figs Nate bought for a delicious pasta dish he wanted to recreate at home. She instantly thought of a book project. The idea became a blog when one of the illustrators they invited couldn’t meet the deadline. One illustrated recipe is featured per day with contributions coming from all over the world. Favorites include the Raspberry Bars, Italian Parmigiana and the recipe that started it all Fettuccine and Figs in a Butter Balsamic Sauce.

Manna not from Heaven?
Manna, it turns out, is dried plant sap that comes in many varieties, depending on the plant. It is sourced mostly from the Middle East where the climate is conducive to the formation of these grains. Just like what the bible says, it’s sweet but not cloying. The texture is both chewy and crunchy. No two people taste it the same way, making the flavor a truly personal exprience. At US$22 to US$28 at ounce, it ain’t cheap. That’s okay. Having too much gives a laxative effect anyway.

It's a Pop Tarts World!
Soon to open at the heart of New York's Time Square is the Pop Tarts World, a cafe devoted to
—you guessed it, Pop Tarts! Menu highlights are the Pop Tarts Sushi, three kinds of minced Pop-Tarts wrapped in a fruit roll-up, and Fluffer Butter, a s'mores-like Pop Tarts sandwich. There won't be a billboard, just 50-foot Pop-Tarts branding in front so you won't miss it. Watch out forthe grand opening on January 2011.
