Meet Manila's Newest Draft Beer

Engkanto Brewery's beer is brewed with high-quality and natural ingredients.

When you walk into a pub that holds or specializes in draft beer, you know you’re in for a treat. While that 45-peso bottle of pale is hard to resist, splurging on a tall glass of beer on tap is more often than not, very worth it.


“Draft beer is well-maintained,” says Engkanto Brewery brewmaster Josh Karten. “It’s fresher and more flavorful because the beer is kept in controlled environments.”



Ian Paradies, the founder of the just-opened Engkanto Brewery in Makati City, aims to make draft beer more accessible and appealing to Filipinos by investing in top-quality ingredients and brewing processes. Flavor is also something the Engkanto team has worked on for months: they have a beer type for everyone—from light, citrusy lagers to heavy, bitter IPAs.


For people who run breweries, quality control and flavor are top priorities. There are a lot of factors that can affect the quality of beer, like temperature and light, among others. Keeping them in kegs then running them on tap gives you fresh beer with body, and is a totally different experience from drinking beer out of a bottle.
