This is a great recipe to do with the kids. It’s idiot-proof, but even if the little ones make a misstep it’s no biggie!
Serves 8 to 10, as a snack Prep Time 20 minutes Total Cooking Time 15 minutes
1 package puff pastry dough (2 sheets)
1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
1/4 cup white sugar
3 tablespoons melted butter
1 In a bowl, mix the cinnamon and sugar. Set aside.
2 Thaw the puff pastry sheets according to package directions; however, instead of waiting the suggested 30 minutes, begin handling the sheets earlier, after about 15 minutes. Otherwise, the dough gets too soft and the sheets may stick to each other.
3 Preheat oven to 400˚F. Roll out and flatten the softened pastry sheet on a wooden board that’s been lightly floured. Create shapes with a knife, cookie cutters, or scissors. Once you have the shapes you like, brush them with melted butter and sprinkle liberally with the cinnamon-sugar mix.
4 Transfer the shapes to a cookie sheet, then bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown. For a crispier snack, turn off the heat but leave the shapes inside for an additional 5 minutes.
Shopping Tip: The premade dough I use is Pepperidge Farm’s Puff Pastry Sheets. There is a steady supply at warehouse giant S&R, but friends have told me it’s also available in the frozen section of Rustan’s Supermarket and Gaisano Supermarket.
