Easy Matcha Layered Cake

Our slice-and-assemble trick saves you lots of time in the kitchen.

1/2 cup softened cream cheese
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup confectioners’ sugar
2 teaspoons matcha powder
1/2 cup chopped pistachio nuts


1 Make matcha-cream cheese frosting: Using an electric blender, beat 1/2 cup softened cream cheese, 3 tablespoons butter, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 1 cup confectioners’ sugar, and 2 teaspoons matcha powder until smooth.
2 Prepare 1/2 cup chopped pistachio nuts and set aside.
3 Using the rim of a glass, cut 9 to 12 pieces in a 1/2-inch thick chocolate cake.
4 In 3 tall glasses, assemble layers starting with chocolate cake, frosting, and then chopped pistachio; repeat until glass is nearly full. Chill until ready to serve.

What's matcha? I've also encountered that word with frozen yogurt.
