When you can't think of a food to bring in a dinner party, why don't you make your own. Here's a recipe that you can whip up last minute.
Yield 8 servings Prep Time 30 minutes Baking Time 8 to 10 minutes
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup ground oatmeal
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 1/2 cups packed light-brown sugar
2 large eggs
4 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup walnuts
1 Preheat oven to 325F.
2 In a medium bowl, combine flour, oatmeal, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
3 In a mixer bowl, with the paddle attachment, cream butter and sugars until mixture is light and fluffy.
4 Add eggs, then vanilla.
5 Add the flour mixture, and beat until just combined. Fold in chocolate chips and nuts until just incorporated.
6 Transfer dough to a 10-inch oven-safe casserole, baking pan, or deep skillet, and level.
7 Bake until edges are brown and top is golden brown, about 40 to 45 minutes.
8 Serve with ice cream and chocolate sauce on top.
