Asian Beef-Asparagus Parcels

These neat little bundles will surely entice your kids to eat their veggies. You can also serve them at your next cocktail party—your guests will gobble them up in no time.

Makes 12 pieces
Prep Time
8 minutes plus marinating time
Cooking Time
10 minutes

400 grams beef sirloin
or rib eye, sliced very thinly
1/3 cup bottled beef kalbi
      marinade sauce
1/4 teaspoon freshly ground
      black pepper
80 grams asparagus spears,
      cut into 2 1/2-inch pieces
3 tablespoons butter
1/2 teaspoon toasted
      sesame seeds  for sprinkling

Mix together beef, marinade sauce, and black pepper. Marinate for at least 6 hours or overnight.

To blanch asparagus, first boil water with a pinch of salt in a medium pot. Add asparagus and cook until tender, about 2 to 4 minutes. Immediately transfer asparagus to a bowl of iced water. Drain and set aside.

Take one slice of beef and wrap 3 to 4 pieces of asparagus. Secure with a toothpick. Repeat with the rest of the beef and asparagus.

Heat a frying pan and melt 1 1/2 tablespoons butter. Pan-fry beef, 4 to 6 pieces at a time, for about 2 to 3 minutes or until brown. Repeat with remaining butter and beef. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds on beef parcels right before serving.
