Black Sesame-Wasabi Nuts

Black Sesame-Wasabi Nuts

Bond with Dad over these jazzed-up nibbles. They're great with a glass of beer, wine, or whiskey.

Makes about 2 1/4 cups

8 tablespoons wasabi powder
3 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon rice vinegar
1 teaspoon cornstarch
2 cups unsalted peanuts
2 egg whites
(Click to see How to Separate an Egg)
2 teaspoons sugar
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoon black sesame seeds for sprinkling

Make a paste with wasabi powder and 3water. Add rice vinegar and cornstarch. Toss peanuts in paste until evenly coated.

Beat egg whites, sugar, and salt until frothy. Toss in the wasabi-coated nuts. Sprinkle with black sesame seeds. Spread evenly on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet. Bake at 200ºF for about 10 minutes or until dry and light brown in color. Let cool. Store in a tightly sealed jar until ready to indulge.
