Love chicken dishes? This is great for family meals.
2 tablespoons cooking oil
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 medium onion, diced
1 kilo chicken, use bone-in chicken thighs
3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 200-gram pack tomato sauce
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon five-spice powder
4 pieces star anise
2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Heat the cooking oil in a cooking pot. Saute garlic and onion until browned.
Add the chicken thighs and cook until browned.
Pour the soy sauce and tomato sauce, while stirring constantly. Add the 5-spice powder, star anise, and sugar.
Add 1 to 2 cups of water and let it boil over low heat for about 30 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
Season with salt and ground black pepper. Serve with warm rice.
TIP: Do you have a lot of packets of ketchup from fastfood take-outs? You can use this to replace the tomato sauce in this recipe.
