Thai-Style Steamed Fish

Thai-Style Steamed Fish

This one is on the spicy-sweet side. Super easy and simple to prepare, it’s made with ingredients usually found in your pantry—perfect for when the craving hits!

Serves 3 to 4  Prep Time 10 minutes  Cooking Time 12 to 15 minutes

1 whole snapper, about 500 grams
1 tablespoon fish sauce (patis)
2 tablespoons lime juice
2 shallots, finely sliced
1 tablespoon grated ginger
1 tablespoon mirin or sweet rice wine
2 tablespoons sweet chili sauce
freshly ground black pepper
1 tomato, diced
cilantro leaves for garnish

1 Prepare the marinade/sauce: In a bowl, mix together fish sauce, lime juice, shallots, ginger, mirin, and sweet chili sauce.

2 Place fish on a sheet of aluminum foil (make sure it’s big enough to cover the entire fish) and pour in the marinade. Season with pepper. Fold foil to seal.

3 Place fish in the steamer. Steam for 12 to 15 minutes or until fish starts to flake.

4 Remove fish from steamer. Transfer to a serving dish with the sauce. Top with diced tomatoes and cilantro leaves, and serve.

Tip Not into snapper? Swap with your favorite white fish instead and follow the same procedure.
