Lay half an onion flesh-side down on a chopping board. Make vertical cuts all across the dome.
Holding the root end, make two horizontal slices, from top to root to prepare the onion for fine chopping.
Still holding the onion in place, start chopping from top to root in quick motion, cutting through all the previous slices. Voilą!
