Learn how to defrost chicken properly.

If you don't thaw chicken properly, the outer portion might be burnt and the inside part might still be raw—which may carry salmonella, a common foodborne illness.

Use the fridge
At least one day before, take the frozen chicken and prick the underside with a fork while it's still wrapped in plastic. Place the plastic-wrapped chicken on a steamer plate; place the plate on a dish with sides. Transfer to the refrigerator to thaw.

Use the microwave
Place small chickens or frozen chicken pieces in a microwave set to the defrost setting for not more than 2 minutes. This is to ensure that the chicken thaws only and doesnt start to get cooked.

Use a water bath
Place chicken in a waterproof bag and put it in a bowl filled with water and ice cubes. Change the water every 30 minutes or keep adding ice cubes to maintain the same water temperature to prevent bacteria from forming.
