How To Care For Bakeware

Here's how to show your tools the TLC they deserve.

Bakers' must: Taking care of the tools that help produce delicious baked goods. Follow this guide so your pans and tools can serve you for a very long time.

1  Use properly
Baking pans come in many materials-glass, aluminum, ceramic, and silicone. Whichever you prefer, be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions as different materials can affect baking time and results.

2  Mind the surface
When cutting or scraping food from the pan, avoid using metal utensils that can scratch. Use a wooden spoon or rubber spatula instead.

3  Clean thoroughly
After each use, allow baking pans to cool before immersing in water to avoid warping. Use a soft sponge, not a scouring pad, for scrubbing. Dry the pans with a soft cloth to prevent rusting.

4  Don't forget to clean the oven!
With the oven off, remove racks and scrub with soap and water. Polish the oven door and body using a sponge and baking soda-water solution in a spray bottle. Wipe dry and return the racks.

5  Store carefully
Allocate a shelf in one of your cupboards for your baking pans. When stacking, place bubble wrap or a piece of cloth in between pans to prevent scratches. Store smaller baking supplies in one drawer so when the baking urge hits, everything you need is in one place.
