A no-bake chocolate yema cake is the kind of dessert that you can make with minimal effort, pantry staples, and limited time. The secret to getting a good rise on a cake without an oven? Use your steamer

Make the no-bake cake batter in one bowl, then the yema frosting in a small saucepan for minimal clean-up. This chocolate cake only needs around 30 minutes to steam, so you’ll have one whole 7-inch cake in under an hour! Make it for Sunday lunch, a potluck party, or a weekend kitchen project.

No-Bake Chocolate Yema Cake Recipe

1/2 cup butter

1 cup white sugar

1 cup full cream milk

2 tablespoons water

1 cup flour

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon baking powder

To make the yema frosting:

1/2 cup condensed milk

2 egg yolks

1 pinch sea salt

1  Make the no-bake chocolate cake: In a small saucepan, mix the butter, sugar, milk, and water until melted. Set aside and let cool to room temperature.

2  In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and baking powder. Mix this into the butter mixture until just combined.

3  Pour the batter into a 7-inch cake pan and cover with foil. Steam for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

4  Make the yema frosting: stir the condensed milk and egg yolks in a small saucepan over low heat until thick. Let cool to room temperature before using.

5  To assemble: Spread the yema frosting over the cake. Serve at room temperature.
