Chocolate desserts are irresistible! Chocolate anything can be classified as instant crowd favorites because let's admit it: people love chocolate

What better way to fall in love with chocolate more than you already do now than by baking with chocolate? You might be thinking that you need to spend more than you can since you'll need to buy high-quality chocolate bars that is at least 55% cacao.

Don't worry! Not all chocolate recipes require chocolate bars because there is another ingredient that can easily make your desserts taste instantly chocolate-y without using expensive chocolate. The ingredient is cocoa powder.

Cocoa powder is the powdered form of chocolate and it's actually more available than those high-quality chocolate bars. This doesn't mean that it's any less delicious. In fact, it delivers a more intense chocolate flavor than the bars can! Think of cocoa powder as a more concentrated form of chocolate and because it's in powder form, it's much easier to use. There's no danger of accidentally burning your chocolate as you melt it.

There is, however, the danger of making your baked desserts tougher. This is because cocoa powder is considered a starch and can absorb the moisture you worked hard to add to your baked cake or cupcake recipe. That's why many cocoa powder recipes have more butter or oil than normal to make up for this characteristic of cocoa powder.

There are two kinds of cocoa powder in the market: natural and alkalized or Dutch-processed cocoa powder. You'll need to read the recipe to find out which you should be using because these two kinds act differently in recipes. Natural cocoa powder is considered an acidic ingredient while the alkalized cocoa powder is neutral. Using the wrong kind can lead to your dessert not rising.

Now that you know more about cocoa powder, here are recipes you can use with it:
