How To Cook Salmon In The Oven
Salmon can be fried, boiled, steamed, and yes, even baked. You can take the more gentle approach to bake salmon and place it in the oven wrapped in parchment paper. This technique, known as en papillote or "in parchment", is a sure-fire way to ensure that your salmon emerges from the oven tender and cooked through.
Want a more fuss-free method to cook salmon? There is another way to bake salmon that's even easier than even this simple baking method, and that's to simply bake it.
Here's how to do it:
- 1 Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F or 220 degrees C for about 20 minutes.
- 2 Lightly oil then season salmon with salt and ground pepper on all sides. (Feel free to use additional seasonings, spices, and herbs as desired.)
- 3 Place on a baking sheet or tray and roast in the oven until cooked through to your desired doneness.
Need a quick guide on how long you should let the salmon bake in the oven? Estimate or measure the thickest part of the salmon with rulers and keep this in mind:
Roast salmon for 4 minutes per 1 cm thickness for rare.
This will roast the salmon until it's still quite pink on the inside or rare. If you prefer it much more cooked than that, add +1 minute for medium and +1 more minute for a well-done salmon. That's about 6 minutes total for a thin slice of salmon. This of course all depends on how thick the salmon is so if you have a thick fillet or steak cut of salmon, add the minutes and total it up.
You can even do this in an oven toaster!
