WATCH: How to Make Beef with Broccoli

No need to buy take out! This easy stir-fry dish is easy to make at home.


There's essentially three steps to tender, melt-in-your-mouth beef and crunchy, vibrant broccoli florets enveloped in tasty oyster sauce: Prepare the beef, blanch the broccoli and toss everything in with the oyster sauce. Check out the video (recipe below!) to see how it's done.


Beef with Broccoli Recipe


For the beef
300 grams sirloin beef, sliced into 2x1-inch pieces
1/2 teaspoon meat tenderizer
1 tablespoon liquid seasoning
2 tablespoons ginger juice (see recipe below)
1/4 teaspoon salt 
pinch of pepper
1 tablespoon egg whites

1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 cup cooking oil

For the broccoli
15 broccoli florets (from 1 medium head)

For the oyster sauce
2 tablespoons corn oil
1 (thumb-size) piece ginger, pounded
1 tablespoon chopped garlic 
stalk leeks, sliced into 1-inch rings
sliced carrots
snow peas
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons gin
1/2 cup chicken stock
sugar, salt, and pepper, to taste 
1 tablespoon cornstarch, dissolved in 2 tablespoons water
1 tablespoon sesame oil  


1  Prepare beef: Mix together beef and meat tenderizer; let rest for 5 minutes then add liquid seasoning, ginger juice, salt, and pepper. Marinate overnight.



 When ready to cook, mix in egg whites and cornstarch into the meat. Heat oil in a wok and fry beef for about 3 minutes. Drain and set aside. 


3  Prepare broccoli: Blanch broccoli in boiling water until it changes color. Wash immediately in tap water.


4  Make the oyster sauce: Heat oil in a wok or frying pan. Sauté ginger and garlic until fragrant. Add the rest of the vegetables, oyster sauce, gin, and chicken stock. When it boils, add beef and continue to boil. Remove ginger; season with sugar, salt, and pepper. Add the broccoli.   


 Top with sesame oil and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

To make 2 tablespoons ginger juice: Peel a thumb-size piece of ginger then grate. Squeeze grated ginger to get the juice. Strain.
