Filipino-American Mary Anne Ticar Bonadio shares their family recipe!

Everyone has their own version of Filipino recipes and lumpiang shanghai varies from one household to the next. In the United States, where Filipino and Asian ingredients may be harder to find, groceries which carry Filipino ingredients mean a lot for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and Filipino-Americans who may want to recreate their favorite Pinoy dishes. Such is the case with Mary Anne Ticar Bonadio who lives in Northern California and loves making lumpia for the family.

She shares her homemade lumpia recipe which gets her family's approval:

Lumpiang Shanghai Recipe

  • Makes approximately 20-30 pieces
  • 1/4 kilo ground pork
  • 1/4 kilo ground beef
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 medium onion, minced
  • 1 small carrot, minced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • 1 large egg
  • lumpia wrappers (20-30 pieces) 
  • For the egg wash:
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tablespoons water
