WATCH: How to Make Salted Caramel Yema
Your fave childhood treat gets a sweet upgrade.
Yema is a Filipino candy made with condensed milk, egg yolks, and sugar. The milky, sweet treat gets an upgrade with salted caramel flavors.
Salted Caramel Yema
Makes 40 small balls
1 300-ml can condensed milk
5 egg yolks from 5 large eggs
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1/4 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons corn syrup
1 Whisk condensed milk, egg yolks, vegetable oil, and sea salt in a medium saucepan until well combined. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring constantly, for 15 to 25 minutes, or until thick; set aside to cool.
Shape teaspoonfuls of mixture into balls; set aside. Heat sugar and corn syrup in another saucepan over medium heat for 5 to 10 minutes, or until sugar turns into a deep-brown caramel. Using a toothpick, pick up balls and quickly dip in hot caramel. Place balls on a greased tray. Sprinkle sea salt on top before caramel sets.
