You've probably had trouble boiling eggs to perfection but once you have mastered how to boil an egg, the next obstacle is peeling it. This is where those perfect eggs become pockmarked and unsightly.

You can avoid that with one of the quickest and easiest ways of peeling an egg and this genius tip.

This genius tip to peel eggs is this: don't even let the egg cool off completely first. Unlike other tips which insist you let it cool down, we say you should be peeling it before it cools down because of a number of reasons. You should wait a minute or three before peeling hard-boiled eggs because the egg will peel itself away from the shell on its own.

What happens when the eggs are heated to high temperatures? The egg inside the shell expands. However, what happens when the eggs are cooled down? The egg shrinks when cool. If you take these two things into account when peeling an egg, you should know the exact time when you should peel an egg: when it has cooled enough to have shrunk away from the shell

The key here is that it should still be hot because the next step will be made easier but also because the egg will shrink away from the shell on its own. You just have to wait it out. The good news is that while you have to wait, it doesn't take too long, especially if you run the egg under running water or dunk it into cold water. The shrinking can take 1 minute to as much as a few minutes. Be patient.

Once you have determined it's cooked to your desired doneness and it's time to peel, here's what you should do to peel it perfectly:

  1. 1. Remove the eggs from the hot water, and place these eggs in a bowl of cold water. Let stand until it has cooled down enough for you to handle it without burning your fingers.
  2. 2. Grab an egg and then crack the eggshell all over. Make sure all the large pieces of eggshell are completely cracked.
  3. 3. Take off a piece of shell and grab hold of the membrane that is stuck to the shell. This will make peeling it easier.
  4. 4. Peel the membrane, and effectively the shell, from the egg. If needed, dunk the egg in the water to loosen the membrane from the egg.
  5. 5. Repeat with the remaining eggs.
