WATCH: All The Ube Desserts You Can Make

There's bound to be one that you'll love.

Ube (purple yam) is a root vegetable that is widely used in the Philippines. It's an essential ingredient in Filipino cuisine, eaten as is when turned into a creamy, sweet jam (halaya) or usually added to desserts such as halo-halo, rice cakes such as puto, or used as a flavor in chiffon cake, cookies, or even in the Pinoy sweet porridge, champorado.

In recent years, ube became trendy in Northern America, turning our humble local ube into a rock star ingredient. Refinery29 hailed it as the "latest beautiful food that people can't stop Instagramming." It was also on a list of 2016's biggest food trends.

It's a great ingredient to work with when you're making desserts! Need more ideas? Here are a few more ube recipes
