WATCH: How to Make Bottled Tuyo

 

 

Bottled tuyo (salted dried fish) is a great pantry staple and food gift. Cooked and bottled with olive oil infused with your choice of spices and herbs, bottled tuyo is a versatile ingredient. It can be eaten for breakfast with rice, or can be mixed with fresh-from-the stove pasta. It will help you make a meal in minutes!

 

Bottled Tuyo

Makes 1 bottle

 

1 cup olive oil
1 cup corn oil
30 pieces tuyo (salted dried fish)
1 head garlic, peeled
1 teaspoon chili flakes (or 1 piece red chili pepper)
salt and pepper to taste


1 In a pan over medium heat, heat olive oil and corn oil. Add garlic and chili flakes. Cook for 3-5 minutes, set aside.

Fry tuyo in cooking oil. Set aside to cool. Remove the head and descale. Remove the spines and fillet the fried fish.

Arrange tuyo fillets in a sterilized jar. Pour in the olive oil mixture.
