Flavored butter or compound butter is the perfect condiment to spice up almost anything: dinner rolls, toasted baguettes, pancakes, French toast, seafood, and meat roasts. It’s pretty much a combination of butter and your favorite sweet or savory flavors, and can be prepped in a matter of minutes.  Breeze through the 3-step procedure below—this recipe is easy!

1  Soften your butter.

This makes for easy mixing and forming. Leave your butter on your countertop at least 1 hour before making flavored butter to make sure that it is at room temperature once your start.

2  Mix in whatever you want!

To match savory items like grilled corn, baked seafood, and roast meat: mix in a combination of herbs, spices, and citrus zest. Some sample combinations are basil, garlic, and parmesan, or oregano and citrus zests.

To complement sweet dishes like pancakes, waffles, and French toast: combine spices like cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla, and honey.

Mix well with a spatula until everything is uniformly distributed.

3  Roll it up.

In plastic cling wrap or parchment paper, roll up your softened flavored butter into a log. Twist the ends and tuck them underneath to seal, or tie up the ends with string. Refrigerate until firm.
