Garlic is the best. It’s sweet, aromatic and gives a dish character. There’s no denying though, that we’ve all had hesitations with handling too much garlic! Peeling garlic can leave your hands stuck with the distinctive smell for a long time. But what can stop you from craving for those extra garlicky dishes? This garlic hack is here to help. If you’ve been hankering for some Bistek a la Pobre and Spaghetti Aglio e Olio and finally decided to make them for the entire family this weekend, you know you’ll be peeling a whole lot of garlic. Is there a way to peel the cloves really quickly?

Filipino bistek, or beef steak, is a saucy beef dish best served with lots of rice!

Would you believe you only need 3 main ingredients for this?

This garlic hack will help you peel like an expert sans garlicky-smelling hands! All you need to do is place the garlic cloves in a metal bowl, cover with another bowl in the same size, and shake vigorously for 15 seconds. You should hear the cloves banging against the bowl. Uncover and you’ll find the cloves completely peeled.

There’s no need to shy away from garlicky recipes anymore! Save time and a ridiculous amount of soap you’d have used to clean your hands. It’s easy to mince garlic without having to intensely handle it. For even less contact with the garlic, you can grind it up in a mortar and pestle and scoop out the paste with a spoon or smash the garlic with a wide knife. To smash the garlic, lay the knife flat over a clove and press down with the heel of your palm until it cracks down. With these garlic hacks, you'll never say no to making garlicky recipes ever again.
