These Are The Avocado Ripening Hacks You Need To Learn
You can try these.
Have you seen those "hacks" where avocados are baked? While baking an avocado will soften the flesh, that's really all it does: makes it soft. Heat will tenderize the flesh but it won't "ripen" the avocado. It will merely soften a hard avocado and does nothing to help the avocado ripen at all.
So. What can you do to ripen an avocado? There are two things you can do to make sure that your avocado ripens:
1 Leave it alone.
The easiest way is really this: do nothing. For the best tasting avocado, you need to allow it to ripen on its own. Place your avocados on your fruit platter on the table and just leave it alone for a few days, depending on how green it is, until the avocados have turned black all over and the flesh is just soft. The avocado should yield to gentle pressure applied to it. This can happen within a few days from purchase so if you want the best tasting avocados, leave it alone to ripen on its own.
2 Place it with rice or inside a bag.
There's an old wives' tale that you should place your unripe fruits in the rice bin to help speed up the ripening process. There is some truth in this myth with regard to some fruits.
Did you know that like apples, pears, and bananas, avocados also produce ethylene gas? By placing the green avocados in the bin, fully surrounded by the rice, will actually speed up the process of ripening since these fruits are in an enclosed area. Plus, it prevents any other fruits from ripening faster than it should.
Now that you have your ripe avocados, you have to be ready to use it. Unless you've already turned these green buttery fruits into guacamole, avocados are best stored at room temperature until ripe. You can earn yourself a few days once it has ripened by placing it in the refrigerator. However, don't leave it there for long. It will begin to lose flavor the longer it sits stored in the cold. With such a perishable fruit, it's best to buy and eat these immediately upon purchase if already ripe or as soon as you've ripened these perfectly.
