Author and TV show host Anthony Bourdain's new cookbook, "Appetites," is filled with recipes that Bourdain himself cooks at home for his friends and family.

While the book is peppered with his unfiltered opinions (and language), each recipe is refreshingly approachable and every tip is written down in detail: even when it comes to the simplest ones like how to make fluffy scrambled eggs and how to cook crispy bacon. Read some his cooking tips here:

On potato salads:

"Use good potatoes, don't overcook them, make your own mayonnaise, get the high-end thick-cut bacon, and pay attention to the seasoning."

On sandwiches:

"That third slice of bread was put there to look good. They don't care about you. But I do. So please: Continue to make your club sandwiches. Just leave out that third slice."

On the fundamentals of hosting dinner parties at home:

"Can women with carefully applied lipstick fit food items in their mouths without messing it up?"

On cooking hamburgers:

"Mayonnaise? Maybe, if applied judiciously. Bacon? By all means."

On mac and cheese:

"Get that damn lobster out of my mac and cheese!"

Appetites is available in Fully Booked and National Bookstore for Php1,650.
