This Pinay Made These Rainbow Star-Shaped Puto In Four Easy Steps
The kids will surely enjoy this!
While it's easy to make a classic puto, you can always have a little fun when making this Pinoy classic kakanin, too. You can add different ingredients to make it more interesting, like what we did with this cheese puto, leche flan puto, corn puto, and you can even make one as big as a cake and top it with cheese and salted egg.
Another way you can have fun with puto is to add a splash of color and use unique molds. Almondz of Naykupo made a batch of rainbow-colored star-shaped puto made especially for her kids and pamangkins to enjoy for merienda. What's great about Almondz's puto recipe is that it only needs a few ingredients you most likely have in your kitchen, plus this recipe only has four steps so you can achieve this colorful star-shaped puto.
Here's how Almondz did it:
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 3/4 cup water
- food coloring
How to make Rainbow Star-Shaped Puto:
- 1 Mix all ingredients in one bowl.
- 2 Divide into 6 smaller bowls and add drops of the food coloring until you achieve the desired color. Mix well.
- 3 Pour it in star-shaped molds until just about full.
- 4 Steam for 10-13 minutes on low heat. Let it cool and unmold.
According to Almondz, you can also add cheese on top before steaming it if you want a little sweet-savory flavor to it. After steaming the puto, all that's left to do is to let it cool down and unmold.
