Davao Farmer Makes It Top 20 List For Best Cacao Beans In The World
Auro Chocolate brought Jose Saguban to Paris for the international competition.

"When we found out he made it to the Top 50, we were already ecstatic so we decided to bring him to Paris to receive his award in person. But WOW! Little did we know he would make it to the Top 20 best cacao beans in the world," Auro Chocolate posted on their Facebook page.

Davao-based farmer Jose Saguban is one of Auro Chocolate's sources for cacao beans and his beans were included in the International Cocoa Awards held in Paris, France. Auro Chocolate is a local bean-to-bar company which uses local and rare cacao to make delicious chocolate.
According to CNN Philippines, more than 200 cacao bean samples from 55 countries competed in the 2019 competition. Other top contenders include farms from Ghana, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea and Vietnam.
According to Auro's Facebook post, "It's been a long journey since we started working with Mang Jose who was trained by our resident expert Louie on quality and proper fermentation."
