This Unique Cookie Flavor Caught Us By Surprise!
It's our favorite out of the 14 flavors available at Ben's Cookies.
Helge Rubenstein, Ben's Cookies founder, started with just a humble cookie stall in Oxford's Covered Market in 1983 and named her cookie empire after her son, Ben. The logo seen on its iconic red box is drawn by the renowned illustrator, Quentin Blake, who drew most of Roald Dahl's books. No big deal.
But Ben's Cookies are more than just Instagram-worthy content, these iconic cookies have gained a cult following worldwide. Ben's Cookies are baked fresh on a daily basis for the last 36 years and counting!
Did you know Ben's Cookie's cookie dough mixtures are hand-mixed? That's how they started back in 1983, which they still practice to this day. To have the exact and consistent quality cookies served in England and in any other Ben's Cookies branches, the hand-mixed cookie dough is actually hand-mixed and blast-freezed from England and brought to the Philippines and the other different branches worldwide.
The cookie dough used to make Ben's Cookies is the backbone of Ben's Cookies. It delivers a softness, chewiness, and crunchiness that simple, straightforward, fresh-baked cookies should have.
Ryan Serrano is the man who brought in the first-ever Ben's Cookies in the Philippines. He brought in 14 of the 19 flavors in Ben's Cookies' portfolio, leaving the likes of ginger and coconut-flavored cookies out of the menu for now.
If you've ever tried Ben's Cookies, you may not be surprised at all by our favorite flavor, the Orange Chocolate cookies. A fruits-and-chocolate flavor combination isn't necessarily a flavor profile Pinoys are accustomed to but this Ben's Cookie flavor stands out as it offers a different flavor that one cannot commonly find anywhere else.
Ben's Cookies' Orange Chocolate cookies are sweet because of the chunks of milk chocolate that you can find all throughout the cookie, plus the added huge milk chocolate chunk on top. The tanginess comes from the orange peels that dot the cookie. According to Serrano, they import the chocolate from Ben's Cookies in England for consistency. The orange peels, on the other hand, are sourced from the United States and had to be approved by the headquarters.
Aside from the Orange Chocolate cookies that you definitely shouldn't sleep on, other chocolatey flavors such as the Double Chocolate & Nuts, Milk Chocolate & Peanut Butter, Fruit Nut Milk Chocolate, Oatmeal & Raisin, Cranberry & White Chocolate, Dark Chocolate, Lemon, Praline & Milk, White Chocolate & Macadamia, Double Chocolate Chunk, Triple Chocolate Chunk, White Chocolate Chunk, and Milk Chocolate Chunk are also available.
