Buhay Carinderia, a project led by Tourism and Promotions Board (TPB) head Cesar Montano was launched last week. The event, led by Tourism Secretary, introduced the project that has been around since 2011. This year, they are calling the event “Buhay Carinderia…Redefined” and will highlight affordable and accessible eats from the carinderia, or the ubiquitous streetside eatery.

Here are a few things to know about the controversial project which was likened to and was reported to replace Madrid Fusion (also earlier reported to be canceled for this year. There are reports that it will push through in September):

1 Buhay Carinderia is backed by the Department of Tourism (DOT) and the TPB.

Buhay Carinderia is a project of Marylindbert International and this year, the events group received support from both the DOT and the TPB to execute the project on a much grander scale. There will be five legs around the Philippines where they will be sourcing for outstanding carinderia food and gathering carinderia owners in one grand event in November or December. No specific dates were announced during the media launch.

Erwan Heussaff has been hired to be the content creator for Buhay Carinderia.

During the media launch, vlogger and social media celebrity Erwan Heussaff was introduced as the event’s content creator. It is still not clear how his following and expertise will come into play.

3 Buhay Carinderia has also tied up with the Department of Education (DepEd).

Marylindbert International has also partnered with the Department of Education to have access to culinary students in the various regions and provinces who will be trained and mentored by experts who will be flown in for the different legs.
