Great businesses solve problems, and that's exactly what Operations Manager John Ryan Pangilinan and his team thought of when they came up with their product, Burger Bomb.

"Iniisip namin, ano ba yung puwede naming i-offer sa ating mga nagtatrabaho on their laptops or while they are driving?" John Ryan tells the OG team. "Hindi siya gano'ng ka-messy, at the same time, kahit isang kamay lang yung gamit mo and kayang-kaya mo naman siyang kainin."

The team first set up a commissary kitchen in 2019 in a garage in a Las Piñas home. At that time, they were made up of only five to ten members ensuring that each Burger Bomb met a certain standard of quality.

A silver lining

Things took a sudden turn when the pandemic hit in 2020. "One of the major factors kasi na naging struggle namin during the pandemic is yung restrictions coming from IATF," John Ryan recalls. "Hindi na puwede mag-dine-in; even the al fresco [naging] puro takeout na lang. So yung mga ibang brands namin is nagkaro'n ng downfall."

Not one to back down from a challenge, John Ryan saw the situation as an opportunity.

"Do'n namin naisip na ilabas yung Burger Bomb na mas ayusin pa yung menu niya para mai-offer namin siya [via] takeout counter."

The Burger Bombs may appear to be ordinary bread on the outside, but they actually "explode" with different fillings and flavors.

"Once the consumer bites into it or hinati nila 'to, sasabog siya kasi hindi namin tinitipid yung ating mga ingredients dito na kung saan ang gusto namin is in every bite, makukuha ng ating consumer yung buong lasa niya."

What started as a menu with just three flavors: Cheeseburger, Hickory BBQ, and Pizza, now has special flavors too: Creamy Pork Floss and Creamy Spinach. Burger Bomb also has fruit-flavored variants such as Pineapple and Mango. Each piece costs P35 and a box of six costs P190.

Since Burger Bomb offered the business up for franchise in 2021, it now has fourteen branches in Luzon, namely in these areas: Las Piñas, Marikina, Navotas, Mandaluyong, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, and Laguna. These days, they earn on average P30,000 daily.

Fighting spirit

Just like any other food business, John Ryan and his team initially struggled to introduce Burger Bomb to the market. Unfazed, they took each setback as an opportunity to learn and refine their plans.

"In life, it's either you win or you learn," John Ryan notes.
