Burger King’s New Sandwich Will Satisfy Your Fried Chicken Cravings This Lent

Yup, there's a new plant-based dish to try at Burger King.

As much as meaty eats are loved in these parts, it’s also worth pointing out how Filipinos have increasingly embraced the plant-based, vegetarian, or even vegan end of the food spectrum. For good reason, there are a ton of other amazing ingredients and dishes to explore that don’t necessarily rely on animal products to taste great, and it’s especially well worth trying these eats now that Lent is upon us.

With that comes the rise of meatless counterparts of popular meaty eats, and here’s a new one to try. Burger King‘s now got a plant-based chicken sandwich available on their Philippine menu.

Dubbed the (P150/ala carte, P195/value meal), this sub-shaped “chicken” sandwich-like number is completely free of meat. Instead, it goes for a six-inch plant-based patty developed by UK-based brand The Vegetarian Butcher, fresh lettuce for crispness, plant-based mayo for creaminess, and soft sesame seed buns to hold everything together.

From the sound of it, it bears similarities to the plant-based Long Chicken Patty Burger King’s got in Germany, also known as the Vegan Royale in the U.K., and the winning combo of a crispy patty plus lettuce and mayo is always a treat.
