PSA: Moist Banana Cakes Filled With Ube Exist (And We Love It!)

We're going bananas over it!

If you have ever been to Tagaytay, you've probably passed by a humble little bakeshop named Carmela's Banana Cakes on your way to favorite Tagaytay restaurants. We finally let our curiosity get the best of us and tried their famous banana cakes.

Carmela's is a bakeshop, a pasalubong center, and a cafe rolled into one, but the cafe was under construction when we paid a visit. You can find different pasalubong staples from different parts of the country, plus Carmela's own delicacies, such as silvanas, brownies, embotido, and more.

But the main attraction are the banana cakes, and they have an entire rack dedicated to it that welcomes you with an enticing freshly-baked scent! Carmela's flavors range from their Signature Banana Crunch (P200) to ones with added walnuts (P240), chocolate (P220), coffee with cream cheese (P220), and our new favorite, the Ube-filled Banana Cake (P220).

This is best paired with coffee, of course!

What we love about it

For banana cake fans, Carmela's has an honest-to-goodness banana cake: moist, dense, and packed with sweetness. It is what is to be expected of a well-done banana cake, but what makes this special is the vibrant purple ube filling you'll see once you've taken a slice of the cake.

The ube itself doesn't take any shortcuts, it's made with real ube halaya. If you love everything ube, you know how rare it is to encounter good ube and, thankfully, the one used for Carmela's ube-filled banana cakes is creamy and you can taste the sweetness and earthiness of the ube.

Where you can get it

You can get the Ube-filled Banana Cake at Carmela's Banana Cake. The shop is located at Tagaytay Nasugbo Road, Crossing Silang East, Tagaytay City, Cavite City.
