Not everyone buys breakfast. For those of us who don't and instead opt to cook it at home, there are many options out there, including this brand: Chef's Selection. It is a brand under San Miguel Food and Beverages, Inc. that offers packs of patties for food service, which means it's ideal, but not limited to, for those in the F&B industry. They have the Value Beef Burger, Chorizo Hamonado Patty, Angus Burger Patty, and (the most sought-out product) the Sausage Patty.

According to online forums, Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty tastes similar to the sausage patty used in McDonald's Sausage McMuffin. Some even claim it's the exact same thing. So, we had to know for ourselves and ordered both.

Where To Buy Chef's Selection Sausage Patties

Based on our experience, it's hard to source the Sausage Patties. We tried different supermarkets, both physical and online, but failed to find it. To our surprise, we ordered it from the San Miguel Frozen & Chilled's Shopee store early one morning, and it was delivered that same afternoon from Rizal to Alabang.

Chef's Selection Sausage Patties are priced at P392 for each 1-kilogram pack or 20 pieces of patties. Simple division results in paying P19.20 for each patty.

Does Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty taste like McDonald's?

Before we get right to the taste, the most visible difference between the two is that Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty is the shape. Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty is thinner and the shape is more oval, as opposed to McDonald's sausage patty which is thicker and round.

While the shape is just aesthetics, when it comes to taste, we confirm that it is a close match but we can't say it's the exact same thing. The difference, really, is the herby notes Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty has which doesn't align with McDonald's peppery taste profile.

It's important that you don't over-fry Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty just so the salty and umami flavors are at the same level as McDonald's. According to the cooking instructions, you should pan grill or fry each side for 2 minutes to 2 minutes and 30 seconds. And that's exactly what we did. (See photo below.)

We won't stop you though if you like it more tustado!

The patties are really oily! So you don't even need to add cooking oil that much.

Chef's Selection's Sausage Patty is great for a breakfast sandwich if you want to replicate McDonald's Sausage McMuffins at home! But if you love rice, you can definitely pair it with sinangag or garlic fried rice and fried egg, too.
