What do you get when you combine craft beer and coffee made from Arabica beans from Bukidnon? A smooth lager with chocolate notes and a caffeine kick. Meet Uli, the coffee beer conceptualized by the Draft Group (the folks behind The Brewery at the Palace, the largest micro brewery in town) and the Hineleban Foundation.

“Uli” means to “give back” and that’s precisely what you do when you order a glass of coffee beer. For every order of Uli, P25 will go to the Bukidnon-based Hineleban Foundation, which works  with communities in the Bukidnon mountain ranges by providing income and access to markets for their Arabica coffee, awarded with a grade of 86.25 at the Global Specialty Coffee Expo last April 2017 in Seattle, USA.

According to Renee Araneta Perrine of the Hineleban Foundation, the coffee farmers used to earn P4-6 per kilo for their coffee cherry harvest. With Hineleban Foundation as their partner, the did away with middle men and now earn up to P18 per kilo of coffee cherries sold. Hineleban Foundation also works on reforesting the mountain ranges of Bukidnon and they have planted 4.4 million trees from 2013 to December 2017. They are helping address the deforestation problems of the country—we are currently down to 1.5% forest area in the country as of December 2017.

Uli is now available at Brewery at the Palace (P120 per glass), Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
