Will There Be A Price Increase On Noche Buena Products This Year?
The Department of Trade and Industry hopes there won't be any.
The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) urges manufacturers and retailers to put off any price adjustments of Noche Buena product staples while the pandemic is still ongoing, according to a report on CNN Philippines. The upcoming holiday is the second Christmas in a row that Filipinos are celebrating the holiday season while in a pandemic.
DTI Consumer Protection Group Undersecretary Ruth Castelo said in a virtual briefing on Thursday, "Hindi pa sigurado kung may mag-i-increase. Susubukan na pakiusupan ulit sila." (It's not yet sure if there will be an [price] increase. We will try to talk to them [manufacturers] again.)
DTI is expected to release the list of suggested retail prices (SRP) for Noche Buena products by the end of October or early November this year.
Castelo also mentioned that last year, the manufacturers agreed to not raise the prices of Noche Buena staples. They were able to maintain their 2019 SRPs during Christmas last year.
