One of the biggest and grandest festivals in China is the mid-autumn festival, which is also called the moon festival as this event happens during the time of year when the moon is at its fullest and brightest. According to Chinese culture, the full moon symbolizes prosperity and family reunion which is why one of the more popular traditions during the moon festival is to equally share one mooncake with a family. This traditional Chinese pastry, often round in shape (to resemble the moon), is filled with sweet stuffing, such as red bean paste and lotus seed powder.
