Eng Bee Tin’s Filled Tikoy Bumbong is the newest item being offered by the Chinese deli, just in time for the Christmas season. Instead of the steamed purple rice cake, this new item features a purple-hued tikoy that’s stuffed with your choice of sweet custard or ube halaya.

What makes this similar to puto bumbong is not just its purple color, but the toppings as well! Just like its most classic form, this tikoy is best served with a slather of margarine, sugar, and desiccated coconut.

If you’re keeping this in the refrigerator, it’s best to microwave it for 20 seconds or steam it for 3-5 minutes. This is so that when you slice this tikoy, the custard filling or ube halaya filling softens and oozes out of the tikoy!
