Chocolate Brands From The Philippines Win Major International Awards

The Philippines is home to amazing food finds, thanks to the many creative and talented local players that continue to come up with innovative and great-tasting products. Here are more reasons to be proud of what we've got: A number of Filipino brands have taken home awards in this year's Great Taste Awards in the U.K.

Our local chocolate got a great share of the spotlight, as the awards recognized a number of Filipino cacao and bean-to-bar chocolate brands. Auro Chocolate took home a whopping seven awards for their 85% Mana Dark (two stars), 42% Milk (one star), 55% Dark (one star), 55% Dark w/ Arabica (one star), 77% Dark (one star), and 85% Regalo Dark (one star) bars, as well as their Peanut Hot Chocolate (one star). Theo and Philo was also awarded for their 60% Dark Chocolate with Ginger and Mint (two stars), 90% Dark Chocolate (one star), 70% Dark Chocolate (one star), and Dark Hot Chocolate (one star).

Rebel Kitchen's Coconut Water is made with just the pure, organic stuff.

Coconut products scored big, too: Hiddn & Co for their 100% Raw Virgin Coconut Oil (two stars), Rebel Kitchen for their Coconut Water (two stars), CoccoMio for their Organic Coconut Vinegar Tropical Spice (one star), and the SAGANÀ Association for their Roasted Coconut Spread (one star).

Meanwhile, Davao-based Rosario's Delicacies took home an award for their Tableya (one star). Pili-nut snack maker Mount Mayon was also awarded for a couple of their products: the Himalayan Pink Salt (three stars), Ecuadorian Cacao (two stars), and Tiramisu (two stars) pili nuts, as well as their Natural Nut Butter (three stars). Ice-cream brand Super Scoops was recognized for its Coffee Cashew Crumble (one star) and Choco Brownie Madness (one star) ice cream-which happens to be dairy-free!

The Great Taste Awards is an annual food award held in the U.K. and promoted by The Guild of Fine Food. It's said to be the "world's largest and most trusted food and drink awards," and winners receive one, two, or three stars, which signify that the product is "simply delicious", "outstanding", or "exquisite", respectively.
