Get to Know British-style Fish and Chips at This New BGC Spot
Did you know that they pair these battered and fried fish with mushy peas?

Fish and chips, the quintessential British meal of beer-battered fish paired with thick, hand-sliced fried potatoes, is easy to put in one's comfort food list. Crunchy beer batter that gives way to steaming hot flaky fish is a satisfying meal that doesn't need a lot of fanfare. Here's how to eat fish and chips, the British way, according to the chefs at newly-opened CargoFish:Â
Â
1Â Cod is usually used but dory, tilapia, and cobbler are great, too.
"We usually have beer-battered cod and sprinkle salt and malt vinegar on them," shares Matthew Hornsby-Bates, managing partner of CargoFish, a "chippy" that officially opens to the public on April 4, Tuesday.
Â
At CargoFish, you can opt for other fish other than cod such as cobbler, dory, tilapia, and even salmon.
Â
Â
2Â It's usually paired with mushy peas and curry sauce.
Aside from a generous sprinkle of salt and a dash of malt vinegar, fish and chips is usually served with a curry sauce and mushy peas, says Matthew.
Â
Mushy peas in on CargoFish's menu: it's a hearty side dish made from fresh peas boiled and cooked with butter, salt, and cream (or lemon juice) to create a texture that resembles a puree.

3 Pair it with a beer!
"Go British with cod and proper chips with mushy peas, curry sauce, and tartar-pairs nicely with a beer!" adds Matthew.
