Sushi bake is currently one of Metro Manila’s biggest food obsessions amidst the quarantine. The unique dish is basically a deconstructed version of sushi that’s baked in a pan or casserole and served with nori sheets. It’s eaten by taking a spoonful of the baked sushi and wrapping it in a nori sheet almost like a mini taco. Shawarma Bake is composed of hummus, spiced minced beef, roasted tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers in a pan. It comes with yogurt tahini-garlic and spicy sauces just like standard shawarma wraps or rice meals. Similar to sushi bake, Shawarma Bake is made to be eaten like mini tacos. Simply take the pita bread served with the dish, scoop up the baked layers in the pan onto the triangular bread, fold it up, and take a bite!
