Ube-cheese pandesal is still a big food trend. Since the trend began in late 2019, many have enjoyed these soft buns stuffed with an equal blend of sweet ube halaya and salty cream cheese.
It has sparked the creation of more unique versions to satisfy your pandesal cravings, such as the ones offered by online store Flavours by Yna.
Aside from PandeUbe, the store’s best-sellers are PandeMatcha or green tea-flavored pandesal with matcha filling, and PandeTsokoNutella, chocolate pandesal infused with Nutella hazelnut spread.

The store also has PandeButternut or butternut pandesal filled with peanut butter.

Completing their menu are the PandeVelvet (red velvet pandesal) and PandeBerry (blueberry pandesal) that are both stuffed with full-flavored cream cheese.
One box containing 12 pieces of pandesal costs PHP240.
THE STORY BEHIND FLAVOURS OF YNA
These unique pandesal flavors were created by hobbyist and home baker Rose Sharina Ramos, or “Yna” to her friends and customers.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) chatted with Yna on June 1, 2020, via Facebook Messenger.
The 28-year-old baker detailed how her constant craving for the popular ube pandesal led her to start her own bakeshop on Facebook.
“It all started as a craving for the usual ube halaya pandesal I see online. I made it and it turned out pretty easy. It tasted good, too. I made batches for family and friends, which I did not intend to sell. Mahilig lang talaga ako magpadala ng mga luto and baked food ko sa kanila, and ask if masarap.” She added, “Then, they encouraged me to sell online.”

Yna’s inspiration to innovate came from an unlikely source: Hey Babe, the 1999 romantic-comedy film starring Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin.
She recalled, “lt dawned on me at three o’clock in the morning while watching Hey Babe on iWantTV.” She adds, “In that movie, Nelson (Marvin Agustin) loves to give Abigail (Joline Magdangal) colored bread. That gave me the idea of creating more flavors.”

With the help of her husband Mark and their house helpers Maritess and Carrie, they were able to launch Flavours by Yna on May 23, 2020. “Orders are good since we opened. On our first week, we already distributed 600 boxes of pandesals,” Yna beamed.
The baker-entrepreneur also assured clients, “We bake every day. We only deliver freshly-baked pandesals. But we have a one-day lead time before the delivery.”
