This Truffle + Cheese Pizza Is A Cheese Lover’s Dream Come True

This BGC resto has really good meatballs, too!

If you've heard of Francesco's (yes, the same Italian restaurant in San Juan), then you'll be glad to know that there's a more affordable version of Francesco's now open in BGC. Unlike Francesco's branch in San Juan that caters to families, the one in BGC offers its dishes in smaller serving sizes that's perfect for a party of two.

The man behind Francesco's Italian dishes is Chef Patron Francesco Rizzo, born and raised in Leece, Italy (it's located on the heel of boot-shaped Italy). For Italians living in the southern part of Italy, use of olive oils and tomatoes in dishes are common while northern Italian dishes are heavy on butter and creamy sauces. This use of olive oils and tomatoes is a prominent characteristic of Francesco's dishes. 

According to Chef Francesco, when he was younger, he would be the one tasked to help make these meatballs using a three generations old-recipe.

What to order? A dish you should definitely start with is the Le Polpette (P460), a meatball dish using a recipe passed down from generation to generation. Chef Francesco recalls his mother would always serve this meatball dish every Sunday, without fail. This dish has slightly herby meatballs in a fresh tomato sauce with Grana Padano cheese. It's light, tangy, and has enough flavors to keep you happy until the next dish arrives.

The second dish you need to try at Francesco's is the Tartufata Pizza (P480).When it arrives on your table, the aroma of the cheese and truffle sauce will get your attention. This Roman-style pizza, which has an airy and crunchy crust, is topped with mozzarella cheese, asiago cheese (a semi-hard cheese from northern Italy), gorgonzola cheese, fontina cheese, and truffle sauce!

The origin story of the Tartufata is actually an interesting tale. Chef Francesco says that this pizza "came out from a mistake," then adds, "I was trying to do a four cheese pizza...It's very popular, the four cheese pizza, right? I mixed this truffle paste by mistake when I thought it was something else."

In case the Le Polpette and the Tartufata Pizza isn't enough, you can order Spaghetti Puttanesca (P440), which has anchovies, olives, capers, in a garlic tomato sauce, topped with pecorino cheese. For dessert, you can't go wrong with a classic Italian dessert like tiramisu. Francesco's Tiramisu all Amaretto (P360) is a traditional tiramisu with a twist of amaretto, a liqueur with notes of almond.
