There’s Adobo And Sisig At This Japanese Restaurant
Japanese cuisine meets Filipino flavors!
Genki Sushi, a Japanese restaurant known for its conveyor belt for sushi, serves different types of maki, temaki, sashimi, nigiri, gunkan, rice bowls, side dishes, and desserts. The latest additions to their menu combine Filipino flavors and Japanese food: the Japanese Tuna Adobo and Minced Pork.
The Japanese Tuna Adobo (P180) tastes just like adobo, but instead of the usual pork and chicken, Genki Sushi uses tuna. The adobo flavor of this dish leans toward a more sour version. Genki Sushi's Japanese Tuna Adobo is served with rice (because what's adobo without rice?), corn kernels that add a contrasting sweet crunch, nori strips, and leeks.
Another Japanese-meets-Filipino dish on Genki Sushi's menu is the Minced Pork (P250), which is similar to sisig, the classic Pinoy ulam or pulutan. The Minced Pork is a mix of flavor-packed minced pork belly, mayonnaise with a slight hint of wasabi, white onions, tanugi, and leeks. Genki Sushi switches the commonly-used calamansi for lemon slices that add the acidity that we all look for when eating sisig.
When you're done trying these umami-filled dishes, end your meal on a sweet note! If you're a chocoholic, you should try the Chocolate Mousse (P180/slice) or if you're more into earthy-flavored desserts, there's the Matcha Double Fromage (P180) that has a cheesecake-like layer.
Genki Sushi is located at Bonifacio Stopover, U.P. Town Center, Ayala Malls The 30th, SM Aura, SM North Edsa, and SM Megamall.
